Made for convenience

“Made for convenience” Emi KATSUTA Solo Exhibition

Neptune Gallery

2023.9.9-11.5

Opening tea party  2023.9.9 (Sat.) 3:00 PM

Neptune Gallery is honored to invite the Japanese contemporary artist Emi Katsuta to come to Taiwan to hold a solo exhibition “Made for convenience” at Neptune Gallery in early autumn. This is the artist’s second solo exhibition in Taiwan. She transforms various imaginations and explorations in daily life into fantasy clown sculptures. The unique narrative techniques and aesthetics compose a new style of sculpture art. Through the emotional tension of the dramatic characters, it creates a theater atmosphere like a circus stage, and creates an interactive game of guessing and imagining with the audience. The exhibition will be held from September 9th to November 5th. The opening tea party will be held on September 9th at 3:00 pm. Emi KATSUTA will also be present on the opening day. We sincerely invite you to come.

The idea of the exhibition title “Made for convenience” comes from the artist’s expectation to stand with the viewer from the perspective of curiosity and exploration, dig out the behaviors and common sense that are accustomed to in life, and further think about the trivial daily life and self-exploration. When people start to create and agitate for “convenience”, these “conveniences” have become the basic knowledge of the public, such as the impact of technology on the great changes in contemporary life. But as human beings, if we reflect on such common sense and meaning, will we blindly follow the trend, or will we reinvent ourselves in a new style.

Artist Introduction

Emi Katsuta was born in Nagasaki, Japan in 1983, and graduated from the Sculpture Group of the Institute of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts in 2009. She is a popular contemporary artist in Japan and good at combining two-dimensional elements to three-dimensional creations ,hence, she creates sculptures that seems like paintings. Moreover, she is well-known for her female clown sculptures, humanized fluffy animals, and cute-looking children. She tends to awake the viewer’s sense of childhood happiness and casual innocence. She loves reading trends magazines. The colors of her works are bright and diverse, with dreamy facial expressions and current fashion outfits, presenting lifelike characters with a unique style.
