INKstudio concluded the sale of the hanging scroll “Mountain God” by the Beijing and Los Angeles based artist, Bingyi, to an American institutional collector, within the first fifteenminutes of the VIP preview of Taipei Dangdai. Two other works in the series have been reserved by collectors from Taiwan and from Europe.
In addition to the first day sales, Bingyi’s artworks have aroused a lot of interest from Taiwanese collectors active in various creative industries, such as fashion and performance art. There was high interest from mainland China and Korea collectors in artworks by JeongGwang-Hee, Jennifer Wen Ma, Kang Chunhui, Lao Tongli.
As the director of INKstudio, Craig Yee observed, Taiwanese collectors are extremely experienced and are approaching the collecting of international contemporary art with thatsame seriousness. Taiwan collectors also have their own taste which Craig would describeas a historically-informed blending of East Asian and Western aesthetics, subject matter and concepts on the one hand and a more regionally-focused post-war cultural and artistic dialog between Taiwan, China, Japan, Korea and Southeast Asia on the other. The unique dimensions of Taiwan’s regional and international engagement with the world is what underlies their unique point of view and their distinctive taste in international contemporary ink art.
